Russian Athletics challenges World Athletics sanctions at CAS

The Russian Athletics Federation has filed a new claim with the Court of Arbitration for Sport to contest sanctions imposed by World Athletics due to the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The federation states that these sanctions restrict its ability to represent Russian athletes internationally. Despite the bans, the International Olympic Committee provisionally lifted Russia's suspension in July, potentially allowing participation in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Russian Athletics has separately appealed a decision by the World Athletics Council to extend the ban on its athletes from international events. Other sports federations have begun easing restrictions on Russian competitors.
