Rutgers University has officially announced that Dylan Lonergan, a transfer from Boston College, will be the starting quarterback for the Scarlet Knights in the 2026 season. Lonergan won the position in a competitive battle against third-year quarterback AJ Surace. He will make his debut on September 3 against UMass. The decision follows extensive evaluations during training camp, where head coach Greg Schiano praised both quarterbacks for their skills and leadership. Lonergan replaces Athan Kaliakmanis, who was selected by the Washington Commanders in the 2026 NFL Draft after two successful seasons at Rutgers.
