Ryan Blaney has expressed frustration with NASCAR's qualifying metric after starting 24th or worse in three of the first four Chase races. The metric determines starting positions when qualifying is canceled, which has occurred due to weather multiple times. After finishing fourth at Darlington and 33rd at Bristol, Blaney started 25th at Kansas, where he finished fifth. Blaney called for a more consistent qualifying system, while NASCAR plans to maintain the current approach during the Chase. Mike Forde, NASCAR's vice president of racing communications, said changes are unlikely until the offseason.
