Ryan Spooner, a former forward for the Edmonton Oilers, has announced his retirement from professional hockey shortly after the 2026-27 season commenced. Spooner signed with HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovak Extraliga in early September, but after competing in just five games, he decided to retire. In his brief stint at Dukla, he recorded one goal and four points. Spooner previously played for the Oilers from 2018-2019 and was traded to the Vancouver Canucks later that season. The Oilers began their new season with a 6-5 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks and will attempt to rebound in their next match against the Canucks on Thursday.
