Salpointe quarterback Isla Collins named MaxPreps Freshman of the Year

Isla Collins of Salpointe Catholic was recognized as the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year after a standout season. In her freshman year, she threw for 2,432 yards and 47 touchdowns; additionally, she rushed for 996 yards and 12 touchdowns, leading her team to a 16-1 record and a state championship in their inaugural flag football season. Salpointe competed in the 4A class, and the recognition comes as flag football gains traction in high schools, with 23 states currently sanctioning the sport. Collins also made the Under-17 national team for the United States, marking her second selection for a national roster.
