Sam Johnstone targets first-team role after joining Celtic on loan

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has joined Celtic on a season-long loan from Wolves to compete for regular playing time. The 33-year-old has served as an unused substitute in his first two matches with the club since the transfer. Johnstone credits his development to early years training under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and advice from former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart. Manager Martin O’Neill, who helped recruit the player, has indicated that the goalkeeper will receive appearances during the season. Johnstone holds four England caps and aims to use his time in Scotland to potentially rejoin the international squad. He spent his early career learning from goalkeepers including Edwin van der Sar, Ben Foster, and David de Gea.
