San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints release players from recent trade

The San Francisco 49ers released linebacker Deion Jones one week after acquiring him in a trade with the New Orleans Saints. Simultaneously, the Saints released running back Zamir White, the player they received in the same exchange. Both teams completed the trade to address specific roster needs, with New Orleans looking for emergency backfield depth following injuries to Alvin Kamara, Devin Neal, and Ty Chandler. Jones had originally signed with the Saints on Aug. 8 before the clubs finalized the swap. While White recorded four carries for 23 yards and an 11-yard touchdown during a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, neither player secured a spot on their new team's 53-man roster. The exchange resulted in no lasting roster additions for either organization.
