San Francisco Firebells defeat Boston Hunters in playoff semifinal opener

The San Francisco Firebells secured a 6-4 victory over the Boston Hunters on Wednesday in the opening game of their best-of-three Women's Pro Baseball League semifinal series. Held at Robin Roberts Stadium, the game saw Firebells pitcher Kelsie Whitmore work five innings to earn the win while allowing three runs on six hits. After falling behind, San Francisco rallied in the fifth inning behind an RBI groundout from Andreanne Leblanc and a go-ahead double by Alexia Jorge. Skylar Kaplan contributed to the offense by finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Beth Greenwood led the Boston effort with three RBIs, but the Hunters could not reclaim the lead after the Firebells' fifth-inning surge. The series continues on Friday, Sept. 11, at the same venue, where San Francisco holds a 1-0 lead.
