Garcia, who played collegiately at Oregon and LSU, showcased his talents as both a pitcher and an outfielder during high school. He made a significant impact in college, especially noted for his breaking ball and mid-90s fastball. Prior to the draft, he played for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he posted a 2.35 ERA over four starts.
