Scheffler starts strong in first round of British Open at Royal Birkdale

Scottie Scheffler opened his British Open defense with an impressive front nine at Royal Birkdale, carding four birdies to sit three under par and just behind the clubhouse leaders. His performance comes after a challenging week at the Scottish Open, which ended his streak of 78 consecutive cuts. In the meantime, Robert MacIntyre also had a notable showing, finishing with a three-under 67. Other competitors include Bryson DeChambeau, who is even through 12 holes, and Tommy Fleetwood, who has recorded one birdie and one bogey through his first 10 holes. Rory McIlroy is set to tee off alongside Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick later in the day.
