George Desmond Kamurasi, the goalkeeper and captain for ninth-tier English side SE Dons, has turned down an offer to become the Omukama, or king, of the Tooro people in Uganda. The Royal Succession Committee had identified Kamurasi as the preferred successor following the death of his cousin, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Despite receiving 15 out of 21 votes from the commission, the 36-year-old athlete declined the position, citing existing commitments. The throne was subsequently offered to Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, though his appointment remains contested by family members of the late monarch. Kamurasi continues to play for SE Dons, a club founded by Don Strapzy. The team recently moved forward in the FA Cup following a 2-0 victory against Erith Town. Kamurasi remains a central figure for the London-based amateur club, where he is recognized for his leadership and pre-match speeches.
