Sea snail named Aldisa vozinha honors Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha

Spanish biologist Jesus Ortea has named a new species of sea snail Aldisa vozinha in tribute to Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha. The small, bright red mollusc was discovered in the Caribbean, with the naming timed to coincide with the World Cup. Vozinha gained recognition for his performance in Cape Verde's World Cup debut against Spain, where he thwarted numerous goal attempts. The naming of the species is meant to reflect Vozinha's contribution as his country advanced to the Round of 32. Ortea, who has previously named marine species after other soccer players, received a Medal of Merit from Cape Verde in 2023.
