Seahawks defeat Patriots 13-10 as Sam Darnold faces hip injury

The Seattle Seahawks opened their season with a 13-10 victory over the New England Patriots at Lumen Field on September 9, 2026. The game resulted in a win for the Seahawks, but starting quarterback Sam Darnold sustained a right hip injury early in the contest. Drew Lock finished the game in his place and is expected to retain the starting role for the team's upcoming Week 2 matchup. Coach Mike Macdonald stated the organization is not worried about the severity of the injury, yet medical evaluations suggest Darnold will be unavailable for the next game. The Seahawks now look to build on their home-opener win despite the personnel uncertainty at the quarterback position. The team remains focused on adjustments for the coming weeks as they prepare for their next scheduled opponent.
