Sean McVay recalls Nikola Jokic questioning his sideline get back coach

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay shared an anecdote about an encounter with Nikola Jokic during an NBA playoff game in 2021. McVay, known for his animated presence on the sidelines, recounted that Jokic recognized him and immediately asked about the whereabouts of his get back coach. The coach admitted the interaction left him feeling like a failure, as he realized the viral clips of him being physically restrained by assistants had defined his public perception. McVay noted that he has since modified his behavior and no longer relies on a staff member to keep him from incurring penalties. The Rams are now preparing for their 2026-27 NFL season opener against the San Francisco 49ers. The team continues its preparations while managing personnel absences, including the unavailability of Alfred Collins for the season and Aaron Donald for the upcoming trip to Australia.
