Payton also addressed the departure of rookie tight end Justin Joly, who was claimed by the Miami Dolphins after Denver released him. The head coach noted that the team intended to retain Joly on the practice squad but failed to predict the external interest. Dallen Bentley replaced Joly on the active roster, with Payton citing the seventh-round pick’s distinct skill set as the primary factor for the decision. The Broncos retained approximately 90 percent of their 2025 roster heading into the new season.
