Seattle Seahawks rally to defeat New England Patriots in season opener

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 13-10 on Wednesday night at Lumen Field in Seattle. The defending champions overcame the early loss of starting quarterback Sam Darnold, who exited the game during the first series with an injury. Facing a 10-0 deficit in the third quarter, Seattle rallied with a touchdown reception by Jaxon Smith-Njigba and two interceptions from Julian Love against New England quarterback Drake Maye. Jason Myers secured the victory for Seattle with a 26-yard field goal with 5:50 remaining in the fourth quarter. Drew Lock finished the game at quarterback for the Seahawks under the guidance of first-time play-caller Brian Fleury. The game served as a rematch of Super Bowl LXI.
