SEC, Big Ten establish rules barring NFL players from college teams

The SEC and Big Ten Conferences have enacted new rules prohibiting college football players who have signed NFL contracts or declared for the NFL Draft from participating in their programs. The Big Ten unanimously adopted this rule on August 25, followed by the SEC in the same day. Both conferences are responding to recent court rulings that granted extra eligibility to certain players. The SEC's decisions may conflict with ongoing legal matters, particularly involving LSU's intention to add Dae'Quan Wright, a former NFL tight end. This alignment among conferences may aim to push Congress towards passing the Protect College Sports Act, aimed at providing an antitrust exemption to college programs.
