Serie A meetings focus on new rules to enhance match efficiency

Serie A clubs and referees convened on August 18, 2026, to discuss regulatory changes aimed at reducing stoppage time in matches for the 2026/27 season. Led by AIA technical director Domenico Messina, the meeting included representatives from all twenty top-flight clubs. The changes include a ten-second limit for substitutes to leave the pitch and a five-second countdown for throw-ins and goal kicks. Additionally, players requiring treatment will need to remain off the field for a full minute. The adjustments are intended to promote more dynamic play and increase effective match time.
