Shamari Earls prepares for bigger role with Michigan in 2026

Sophomore cornerback Shamari Earls is set to take on more responsibilities for Michigan Football in the 2026 season. Despite a strong veteran presence in the secondary, including Zeke Berry and Chris Bracy, Earls is expected to rotate into games more frequently than last season. Having not recorded any stats as a true freshman last year, he gained valuable experience playing in six games, including against Nebraska and Texas. Michigan's new head coach Kyle Whittingham noted that Earls has been performing well in fall camp, competing closely with the starters. All signs indicate that while his current role may be as a backup, he will be positioned for increased playing time as he continues to develop.
