Shannon Frakes leads MIAA assists for Washburn volleyball this season

Junior setter Shannon Frakes has emerged as a primary playmaker for the Washburn volleyball team during the opening weeks of the 2026 season. After limited participation across her first two years, Frakes transitioned into a starting rotation role and currently leads the MIAA with 158 total assists. Her performance earned her MIAA Setter of the Week honors for two consecutive weeks. Head coach Chris Herron noted that the transition to a leadership position on the court followed an off-season conversation regarding the team's direction. Frakes credited her teammates' confidence for her recent level of play. The team prepares for upcoming competition at the Ichabod Classic, hosted at Lee Arena this Friday, September 11, with matches scheduled against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Arkansas at Monticello.
