Shaquille Gwengwe requests striker position after scoring brace for Newport County

Newport County forward Shaquille Gwengwe has expressed a desire to move from the wing to his natural striker position following a productive start to the League Two season. The 25-year-old scored a brace during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Tranmere Rovers, bringing his season total to four goals in three appearances. Newport manager Hayden Mullins acknowledged the request but indicated a reluctance to move the player while his current form persists. Gwengwe joined the Exiles after recording 46 goals in non-league competition during the previous season. Currently sitting 11th in the league standings, Newport County prepares for an away match against Salford on 1 September. Mullins praised the forward’s work rate and finishing ability, noting that his recent goals were significant in helping the team secure points.
