Shaun Anderson elects free agency after Angels ownership change

Right-handed pitcher Shaun Anderson elected free agency on Wednesday after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels. The move follows the team’s agreement to sell the franchise to Stan Kroenke for a reported $4 billion. Anderson, a seven-year veteran, had been designated for assignment by the organization three times this season. He recorded a 7.65 ERA in the majors during the 2026 campaign and a 4.95 ERA across 43 and two-thirds innings at Triple-A Salt Lake. The transaction occurred alongside other roster adjustments, including the recall of pitchers Mitch Farris and Blake Weiman and the placement of George Klassen on the injured list. Anderson may still return to the club’s minor league system if he does not secure an opportunity with another organization.
