Sheehan hires alumna Caitlyn Velez as girls basketball head coach

Sheehan High School has appointed Caitlyn Velez as its new head girls basketball coach. Velez, a 2021 graduate of the program, takes over the position from longtime coach Mike Busillo, who retired following the conclusion of last season. During her time at Sheehan, Velez served as a team captain and received GametimeCT All-State Honorable Mention recognition. She later continued her basketball career as a guard at Division III Randolph-Macon, graduating in 2025. This appointment marks the first head coaching position for Velez, who noted that she plans to emphasize life skills and student development alongside on-court performance. The athletic department welcomed Velez back to her alma mater in an announcement earlier this week.
