MLB released its first All-Star voting update, with Shohei Ohtani leading for designated hitter in the National League, accumulating 1,165,133 votes. Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros follows as the top voter in the American League, receiving 1,015,768 votes. The voting process allows fans to select starters for most positions, while pitchers and reserves are determined by player ballot and the commissioner's office. Phase 2 voting is set to commence on June 29, narrowing down candidates further. Ohtani is also a potential MVP and Cy Young candidate this season, although fan voting does not influence his possibility to pitch in the All-Star Game.
