Shohei Ohtani is anticipated to make his pitching return for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. Ohtani will throw a bullpen session on Friday, and if successful, will start the game as an opener, throwing only one inning. He has not pitched since July 3 due to a knee issue and minor biceps trouble. The Dodgers have opted not to assign him to a minor league rehab, as he remains a key player in their lineup. This approach mirrors his return after surgery last year, where he gradually increased his innings over several starts.
- •Ohtani last pitched on July 3 due to injury.
- •He will start as an opener, limiting his first outing to one inning.
- •The Dodgers have chosen not to send Ohtani on a rehab assignment.
- •Ohtani is a prominent player in the MLB MVP race.
