Shropshire Chess Association plans centenary tournament for champions

The Shropshire Chess Association will host a special tournament in October to celebrate the centenary of its annual county championship. Former champions are invited to compete for the title of 'champion of champions.' The tournament highlights the historical significance of the Ernest Groom Trophy, awarded since 1926. Chris Lewis of the association noted the event aims to honor its 100-year history while promoting chess among youth, as junior participation has surged in recent years. The winner will receive a £200 prize and a new trophy.
