Sione Fukofuka steps down as Scotland Women head coach due to family stress

Summary

Sione Fukofuka has stepped down from his role as head coach of the Scotland Women national rugby team, citing family stress related to being away from his family in Australia. Fukofuka, who took charge in December 2025, led the team during the Women's Six Nations series but has asked to be released from his contract on compassionate grounds. Forwards coach Dave Butcher will assume interim duties as the team prepares for the upcoming WXV Global Series scheduled to begin on September 13. Fukofuka expressed that the separation from his family, compounded by changes in personal circumstances, has made it challenging to fulfill his coaching responsibilities adequately.
