Former media analyst Skip Bayless criticized Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken for comments appearing to favor backup quarterback Dillon Gabriel over Shedeur Sanders. In a video released Monday, Bayless argued that the coach took a subtle shot at Sanders while expressing enthusiasm for Gabriel. The controversy follows the Browns’ decision to name Deshaun Watson the team’s starting quarterback for the 2026 season. Monken acknowledged that the competition for the role was intense between Watson and Sanders before finalizing his decision. Despite the recent roster moves, Sanders remains under contract with the Browns for two more years. Watson enters the final year of his current deal, potentially opening the competition for the starting job again in 2027.
