Smokey XII makes Tennessee debut at Neyland Stadium opener against Furman

The Tennessee Volunteers unveiled a new mascot during the season opener against Furman on September 5 at Neyland Stadium. Smokey XII, a two-year-old bluetick coonhound, led the team through the Power T formation at the start of the game. The mascot was selected following a search that began in late 2025 to replace Smokey XI, who retired due to a temperament that made public appearances difficult. Veterinarian Dr. Zenithson Ng identified the dog through an East Tennessee rescue organization, noting the animal's outgoing personality. The new mascot underwent training before making an initial appearance during the Orange and White spring game. Smokey XII is expected to serve as the team's live mascot for the duration of the current football season.
