SMU defeats Florida State at Doak Campbell Stadium following power outage
Summary

No. 20 SMU defeated Florida State 27-24 at Doak Campbell Stadium on September 8, 2026. The matchup was delayed by more than 100 minutes due to a significant power outage in the stadium and surrounding area, which caused operational issues throughout the first half. While power was partially restored, the stadium lacked full functionality, including video clock displays and public address audio, for much of the game. Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, who entered the season under significant pressure, faced vocal criticism from fans during the contest. The loss marks another close defeat for the program, which currently holds an 0-1 record in ACC play for the season. The result extends a difficult period for the Seminoles, who struggled through the 2024 and 2025 seasons under Norvell's leadership.
