Sony Open will transition to PGA Tour Champions event in 2027

The Sony Open in Hawaii is set to become a PGA Tour Champions event beginning January 2027. Renamed the Sony Championship Hawaii, the tournament will take place at Waialae Country Club and feature a $3 million purse. This transition follows the PGA Tour's decision to end its Hawaiian Swing but maintains professional golf in Honolulu. Sony has partnered with the PGA Tour since 1999, contributing significantly to local charities throughout its history. The new Champions event will include 78 players, with competition rounds scheduled to begin January 14, 2027, after pro-ams earlier in the week.
