Sophia Umstead earns selection to U.S. National Swimming Team

Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics swimmer Sophia Umstead has been named to the 2026-27 USA Swimming national team roster. The selection follows her performance at the U.S. National Championships where she placed first in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:25.57. Umstead, a University of Virginia swimmer who previously competed for Jenison, is one of 46 women selected to the team. The roster was determined based on results recorded between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026. National Team Executive Director Greg Meehan stated the roster includes a mix of veteran athletes and emerging talent as the program prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
