As the 2026 football season approaches, South Carolina State is the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) featured in the FCS top 25 poll, ranked 24th with 107 points. The team ended the 2025 season with a record of 10-3 and was the MEAC and HBCU national champion. Other HBCUs, such as Alabama State, Jackson State, and Prairie View A&M, received votes but were not ranked, with Alabama State earning 61 points, Jackson State 59, and Prairie View A&M 27. The team's season opener is scheduled for August 29 against Savannah State.
