South Sydney Rabbitohs support Wayne Bennett assisting Darius Boyd with Queensland Maroons

South Sydney Rabbitohs chief executive Blake Solly has confirmed the club will allow Wayne Bennett to assist Darius Boyd during his debut series as Queensland Maroons coach in 2027. Boyd was appointed to the role following the resignation of Billy Slater in August. Bennett and Boyd have a long-standing partnership dating back to 2006, having worked together across 13 seasons at the Brisbane Broncos, St. George Illawarra Dragons, and Newcastle Knights. Solly indicated that Bennett remains committed to Queensland and will likely provide guidance throughout the preparation phase. Both Queensland and New South Wales will feature new coaching staff in 2027 after Laurie Daley also stepped down from his position following this year's series. The upcoming State of Origin schedule includes a historic game in Auckland.
