Southern Miss hosts Alcorn State for upcoming season opener at Renasant Stadium

Southern Miss opens its 2026 season against Alcorn State on Sept. 5 at Renasant Stadium. The game marks the debut for coach Blake Anderson, who takes charge of a team featuring over 70 new players and only two returning starters. While the Golden Eagles hold a 4-0 record in the series against the Braves, they face a test against an Alcorn State team led by quarterback Jaylon Tolbert. Tolbert enters the matchup following a 56-7 win over Miles College where he recorded five passing touchdowns and one rushing score. Southern Miss enters the game with ongoing questions regarding its starting quarterback, as both Ethan Hampton and Landry Lyddy are under consideration.
