SPFL confirms away fan lockout for Rangers and Celtic derby matches

The SPFL announced that all Glasgow derby matches in the Scottish Premiership and the Premier Sports Cup will be played without away supporters for the remainder of the season. This decision follows a dispute over ticket allocations after Rangers offered Celtic 300 tickets for an upcoming league cup quarter-final match at Ibrox. The governing body stated that the temporary ban is intended to allow clubs, Police Scotland, and other stakeholders to implement recommendations from an independent review regarding matchday safety. This measure also aims to provide certainty for supporters and organizers by avoiding recurring ticketing conflicts. Tensions between the two clubs intensified following a March 2026 Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox, which featured pitch invasions and violence involving home supporters. Both clubs previously received sanctions from the Scottish FA, including a closed-doors requirement for future home cup fixtures, following that incident.
