Springbok Women coach Swys de Bruin resigns before New Zealand match

South Africa Women's rugby coach Swys de Bruin has resigned from his position days before the team hosts New Zealand at FNB Stadium. South Africa Rugby confirmed the departure on Thursday and stated no further comment will be provided to allow the team to focus on the upcoming match. The game is scheduled for Saturday as a curtain-raiser to the men’s test. Reports indicate De Bruin, who took the role in August 2024, was dissatisfied regarding unpaid bonuses from earlier tours. Assistant coaches Laurian Johannes-Haupt and Franzel September will oversee the team for Saturday's fixture. Under De Bruin's tenure, the squad reached its first World Cup quarterfinals and secured a place in the global top 10 rankings. He was previously slated to lead the team through the 2029 Women’s World Cup in Australia.
