Spurs player faces competition for starting role during training camp

Summary

As the San Antonio Spurs begin training camp for the 2026-27 season, Julian Champagnie might be at risk of losing his starting position. After playing a significant role in the Spurs’ performance last season, including a playoff run where he averaged nearly 40% shooting from three-point range, Champagnie has received a three-year contract extension worth $45 million. However, the acquisition of Tobias Harris in free agency, who brings a different offensive skill set, adds pressure on Champagnie’s starting role. The Spurs find themselves at a crossroads, looking to build on a near championship run but also needing to adapt and improve.
