Former Indian pacer S. Sreesanth has openly criticized head coach Gautam Gambhir, calling for a change in Team India's coaching approach. Sreesanth argues that Gambhir's traditional methods have contributed to the team's failures in recent Test series, including losses to New Zealand in 2024 and South Africa in 2025. He suggested that India would benefit more from a mentor figure similar to MS Dhoni rather than a conventional coach. The critique comes in light of India's poor performances, including a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which prevented the team from qualifying for the World Test Championship final. Sreesanth also felt that the credit for the T20 World Cup win in 2025 should be given more to the players than to Gambhir's coaching decisions.
