St. John’s basketball great Wayne McKoy passes away at 68

Wayne McKoy, a former standout player for the St. John's basketball team, died on August 18 at the age of 68, as announced by the program. During his time at St. John's from 1977 to 1981, McKoy played under coach Lou Carnesecca and led the team to the Elite Eight of the 1979 NCAA Tournament, including a notable upset over Duke. He averaged 13.1 points and 7 rebounds across 117 games, ranking among the top in multiple all-time program statistics. After being drafted by the New York Knicks in the 1981 NBA Draft, McKoy chose to play professionally in Spain for three years before returning to the U.S.
