Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward prepares for final NFL season

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward has stated that he will retire following either the 2026 or 2027 season. The 37-year-old veteran is entering his 16th season with the organization and remains under contract through 2027. Heyward noted that his physical health will dictate the specific end date for his career, but he confirmed he will not sign any further contracts beyond his current deal. During the previous two seasons, Heyward maintained a consistent presence on the field, appearing in all 17 games each year while earning All-Pro honors. The Steelers previously addressed the defensive line succession plan in 2025 by drafting Derrick Harmon in the first round. Harmon, who recorded three sacks and 27 tackles as a rookie, represents the organization's heir apparent as Heyward prepares to depart the league.
