Steelers place safety DeShon Elliott on injured reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed safety DeShon Elliott on the injured reserve list on August 30. This move keeps Elliott sidelined for at least the first four games of the 2026 NFL season. Elliott, who signed a two-year extension in June 2025, had been working back from a leg injury that prematurely ended his 2025 campaign. He returned to action during training camp and saw playing time against the Jets on August 21 but sat out the team's matchup against the Bills. With Elliott unavailable for the start of the season, Pittsburgh expects to rely on a secondary depth chart that includes Rayshawn Jenkins and Robert Spears-Jennings. The team also utilizes Jalen Ramsey in various defensive alignments and recently signed Jaquan Brisker. The Steelers open their regular season schedule at Acrisure Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons on September 13.
