Stephen Fleming appointed England's new Test head coach through 2030

Stephen Fleming has been named as England's new Test head coach, signing a four-year deal with the ECB that runs until September 2030. His appointment coincides with Joe Root's return as captain, having previously stepped down in 2022. Fleming has extensive experience in T20 coaching but has not coached red-ball cricket in 18 years. He will not lead the team for the upcoming series against Pakistan starting on August 19, as Marcus Trescothick will take interim charge. Fleming is expected to start planning for the South Africa Test tour in December after spending time with family.
