Stephon Johnson and Myles Rowser await University of Houston eligibility status

University of Houston coach Willie Fritz stated Monday that wide receiver Stephon Johnson and safety Myles Rowser are awaiting final confirmation of their eligibility for the current football season. Both players are among 41 plaintiffs involved in a class-action lawsuit challenging NCAA rules regarding college eligibility for athletes from the high school class of 2022. A Dallas court recently issued a temporary restraining order in favor of the plaintiffs, potentially allowing for a fifth year of competition. While both players have been cleared to participate in team practices, the University of Houston compliance office is waiting for final word from the NCAA before they are cleared for game play. Fritz indicated that the school aims to have the situation finalized by the end of the week. Johnson previously played three seasons at Houston, while Rowser arrives following a stint at Arizona State.
