Sterlington defeats Franklin Parish 42-30 in season opener

The Sterlington Panthers opened their football season with a 42-30 victory against Franklin Parish on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Patriot Stadium. Sterlington began its pursuit of a third consecutive state title by capitalizing on a diverse rushing attack and a long scoring connection between JRob Breen and Devyn Downs. Although Franklin Parish senior Trey Martin recorded four touchdowns, a late fourth-quarter pick-six by Keenen Green cemented the result for the visitors. Franklin Parish sophomore Chad Allen threw two touchdown passes in his debut, but the Patriots were hampered by failed two-point conversion attempts. Sterlington coach Lee Doty praised his team’s late-game execution on the ground. The Panthers move to 1-0 and prepare to host Jena next week.
