Stockton Kings acquire G League rights to Tristen Newton

The Stockton Kings acquired the G League returning player rights for guard Tristen Newton in a three-team deal finalized Thursday. Newton became available after the Houston Rockets released him last week, despite his All-G League performance during the 2025-26 season. The move reunites the point guard with Alex Karaban, his former UConn teammate who joined the Sacramento Kings following the 2026 NBA Draft. Over the past two seasons, Newton appeared in nine total NBA games while splitting time on two-way contracts with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Houston Rockets. While currently holding rights at the G League level, Newton remains eligible to sign a new two-way or Exhibit 10 contract to pursue another opportunity in the NBA. Karaban and Newton previously played together at UConn, where they helped lead the program to a national championship victory.
