Stryker Golf Course at Fort Bragg closes at the end of the month

The historic 18-hole Stryker Golf Course at Fort Bragg will close at the end of September. The Donald Ross-designed course, which opened in 1946, is shutting down due to rising maintenance costs of approximately $750,000 annually and declining attendance. Jennifer Hodges, director of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, stated that the organization could no longer financially sustain two golf courses on the base. While other recreational facilities such as bowling alleys have also shuttered recently to address budget limitations, officials have previously considered repurposing the land for an entertainment complex. Fort Bragg will continue to operate the nearby Ryder Golf Course on Normandy Drive. Future plans for the Stryker site remain under review by military leadership and local civic stakeholders.
