Suburban League seeks petition for separate OHSAA tournaments

Administrators from the Suburban League are pursuing a petition for the Ohio High School Athletic Association to establish separate state tournaments for public and private high schools. They aim to collect 75 signatures by December to bring the proposal to a vote for high school principals in May 2027. This push follows past unsuccessful attempts in 1978 and 1993, amid ongoing discussions on competitive balance within the OHSAA. If approved, the change could take effect in the 2028-29 school year. Relevant meetings on this issue occurred recently at Streetsboro and Princeton High Schools.
