Sumner County Schools maintains hardship transfer rules for student-athletes

Sumner County Schools in Tennessee will keep its existing hardship transfer procedures despite new state legislation taking effect this summer. The district's athletic director Ron Sarver confirmed no changes will be made, aligning with the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) that states existing transfers must still meet hardship criteria. The new state rules allow for one unrestricted transfer; however, the TSSAA confirmed that student-athletes with previous transfers must be evaluated through hardship filings. Data from TSSAA indicates a significant rise in student-athlete transfers ahead of the upcoming season.
