Sunderland remembers Dickie Davis on anniversary of his passing

On August 11, 1999, former Sunderland forward Dickie Davis passed away. Davis, who was born on January 22, 1922, in Birmingham, made 144 appearances for Sunderland between 1946 and 1954, scoring 73 goals. He was the First Division's top goalscorer in the 1949/1950 season with 25 goals, a record only matched by Kevin Phillips decades later. After leaving Sunderland, Davis played for Darlington, concluding his career there with 32 goals in 93 games before retiring in 1957.
